Recession, Rashness & Regret
By Sanjeev Suri From India
Last Year, in one of my blogs, i had dared to mention the simple fact that "What Goes Up Must Come Down" and that it should apply to the stock markets as well. People who did not believe had enough time to mock at me & i couldn't find anything to say in my own defense... till the meltdown "actually happened". Not only did i have the last laugh, most of the shares are today selling at prices that i had called "overpriced" and "unsustainable" back then in January,2008. TODAY. again, the Indian Stock Markets are going gaga over the 100% gains raked up from Diwali to Diwali. And, there is enough rise in the indices the world over. People are AGAIN willing to overlook the facts that : # Recession is not yet fully over # British banks are going bust & being put up for sale # American companies are being bailed out with public funds # Government of India is getting into the "Sell Off" mode # A FRAUD is surfacing with possible inroads into stocks # The recovery in any sector of economy has not been 20%+ and yet, the stock markets have risen five times faster. Is it not prudent to surmise that the stock market indices should be in line with the speed with which the recession is receding ? If at all it is, has anyone taken the call ? Caution having been thrown to the winds already, it appears that the investors, the world over, are once again getting into a position where they will have ample time to repent at leisure. Is it not a wise idea to have a 70 : 30 progress over two years rather than a 100% year followed by a year of gloom once again ?

Contributor's Note
The Stock Index can not move uni-directionally for any given length of time. People burn their fingers getting in "on the up" and then give the Stock Markets a bad name !!
