How Many Generations do You Know ?

ANCESTORS ?
It is an interesting topic to say the least !
And not any less appealing than the time i spent in the
lap of my grandfather who , unfortunately, died due to
kidney failure at quite a young age and , more so, when
i was only a small child. The question i am about to pop [ pun unintended ] will
definitely result in a few eyes to pop out .........
How many generations of one's ancestors does any person
"normally" recollect or identify with ?
3 ? Max at 4 ? [ counting self as #1 ] When my friends spoke fondly of the gifts their grandpa
brought them, my little kid-heart would cringe in a way
far too complicated for words - but i am sure most of my
fellow members would easily identify with the feeling. Having no grandfather is a painful memory even now while
i prepare myself for playing the role in a few years down
the line. The topic also held my interest when my father started
a personal research into our lineage while he was doing
some work in a government sponsored project about the
legacy of someone called Mahatma Gandhi. While it is a fact that both my grandfather & his father
had died before i was ten, my memories remained fresh as
ever due to dad's preoccupation with the family history.
And, it is my dad i am thankful to for introducing me to
a lineage that goes back 15 generations and right down to
the early sixteenth century. How many of you can beat that ? Even if you knew grandpa
for ages and were lucky to have received his affections
for far longer than i could [if you smell jealousy - you
are spot on ]? My yearnings have, however, benefited me in an oblique
way because i was always "trying that much harder" than
my peers as if it could compensate for not having one's
grandfather dote over my childhood pranks.
Maybe, i can play grandfather to a few budding Internet
